Moments --- 7th Dec 2007

Met up with 2 of my secondary school friends several weeks back, before the start of my internship. Should be on a Thursday if I’m not wrong. Can’t really remember as it have been so long ago. I planned it be a chill out and JB thingy. Stayed over at my place and off to JB the next day for food and shopping.

As usual, we kicked off by watching some dvds etc. Went to bed after a few shows.

So what is this entry about? It’s about the conversation that we had while trying to get to sleep. As usual, since my bed is a queen size bed (and there’s only 3 of us), all 3 of us shared the bed. Although everyone is tired, but still, whenever we are trying to get to sleep we’ll start chatting about stuffs.

What is the stuff that we’ll talk about? Well, there’s really nothing what we won’t talk about. But normally we’ll talk about past, present and future.

Past: we’ll talk about memorable times that we used to have during our younger days, especially those days in secondary school where life’s so simple and carefree where the only worry is: ‘what should I do after school? What movie should I watch? What TV program is on tonight’; that kinda stuff. We’ll gossip and laugh over stupid things that had taken place in the past etc

Present: We’ll talk about how each of us are doing these days. Updates on areas like how’s school coming along? How the love life coming along (although mine’s been stale for ages!).

Future: We’ll talk about what we gonna do in the future. What plans do we have, what kinda work we wanna do in the years to come. Stuff like that.

That’s about what we did for the whole night. But that is something which we talk about that night that left an impression in my mind that I wanna talk about here.

We were talking about one of our female friend from secondary school. One of my friend told us that she had a really lousy bf. The bf will actually use vulgarities on her etc and not showing her any respect whatsoever. In essence, he treats her like dirt. So we were saying why she didn’t left him, or that even if she did, they always patch up in the end.

To outsiders like us, we’ll never understand why she never break up with her bf. But who are we to judge? I was wondering then. What we had seen and heard might very well be the negative side of things. Could there be a very different perspective if we are to look at things from some other sides?

And so what if it’s the truth? That the bf really treats here like dirt? Maybe there are really times where her bf showers her with love, care and concern? Could it be those moment of love that she’s really holding on to. Those moments of happiness that she holds close to her heart and that no one else would be able to replace? And so long as she can hold on to the relationship, all the abuse that she goes through would be worthwhile if at the end the day she could retain those moments which she hold dear.

Could that be the reason? It is human nature isn’t it? We often find it hard to give up something for the wrong reason. For example, why are we keeping something like a old watch even after it had stop to serve us? Isn’t the purpose of a watch simply to tell us the time and logically we should dispose of it should it break down and stop working. the reason is because there are certain residual value attached to the watch. The value could be because the watch had gone through his army days with him, it could also be because it is the first present that his /her gf/bf had given him/her?

We’ll. Guess I’ve talked enough rubbish. Kinda messy and unorganized thoughts, pardon me should you guys can’t really make sense of what I had said. Yap.
